Brown roaches similar in size to German roaches but from outdoors. They live in leaf litter, under bark, and in woodpiles around Hickory's forested areas. Males fly toward lights at night. They don't survive well indoors and don't indicate an infestation.
Treatment: Perimeter treatment, light management, sealing entry points. Prevention-focused since they come from outside.
Large (1.5-2 inch) reddish-brown "waterbugs." Common in basements, crawl spaces, and sewer systems. They enter through drains or foundation gaps. Seeing one doesn't mean infestation — but it means entry points exist.
Treatment: Perimeter barrier, drain treatment, exclusion of entry points around pipes.
Dark, shiny roaches about 1 inch long. They prefer cool, damp areas — basements and crawl spaces in older Hickory homes with moisture issues. Less common than other species but present in the area.
Treatment: Address moisture issues, treat crawl space and basement, foundation perimeter barrier.
